The overall vision of My Sister's Place is to establish temporary housing where women can go to when they find themselves without a place to live and a direction to go. Although there are a vast number of reasons why women may find themselves in a homeless situation, the first step is realizing that they have a problem, and become willing to change.
My Sister's Place can accommodate up to six (6) women during a 12-month period. This time will be used to restructure their lives towards independent living. Some of the women may be recovering from abusive life styles, while others may have had a traumatic situation that has caused them to fall out of touch with reality. Each individual must make the decision to do whatever it takes to get her life back on track. My Sister's Place will offer individuals a safe, supportive environment where they can begin to confront the cause of their challenges and problem's in order to become a self-sufficient, contributing member of society.
Residents of the home will become "family" to one another. Parts of the house rules will mention that each resident get involved with the development program. This includes nutrition guidelines, education, career planning, case management, attending classes or acquiring a job skill using a training program, and taking advantage of referrals, through agency networking.
Part of our goal is to offer a low-cost option housing for
individuals who need to confront their challenges. This home serves as a bridge
between the shelter system and a return to independent stable living. At the
home, we rely on residents helping each other, and the work of our dedicated
volunteer staff towards the completion of our overall mission.
